The Caribbean Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science will host our annual scientific meeting on October 24, 2009 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico in a joint effort with the Puerto Rico Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS).  This year conference is dedicated to Professor Daniel Altschuler, former director of the Arecibo Observatory. Our invited plenary speaker will be Professor Antonio Lazcano, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico who will lecture about Darwin and microorganisms.

Puerto Rico welcomes the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress of 2011 and the celebration of 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry. The Congress will include plenary lectures, symposia, oral presentations, poster presentations, workshops and group meetings. There will be ten concurrent sessions each day from Monday through Thursday and Poster Sessions each afternoon and evening from Monday through Thursday.

The Materials Characterization Center, Inc. was created in 1992 by INDUNIV (Industry/University Research Consortium), with support from the government of Puerto Rico in the form of a grant from the Science and Technology Fund, administered by Fomento, Puerto Rico's official industrial and economic development agency. MCC is the only facility within 1,000 miles to offer the following highly specialized analytical services and the corresponding scientific expertise under one roof: Surface Microscopy and Spectroscopy (SMS, such as FT-IR, SEM and EDS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Mass Spectrometry (MS, such as GC/MS, HPLC/MS HRGMS, and DIP). Also, new this year, we are introducing additional analytical services such as USP<467> Organic Volatile Impurities (OVI), USP<695> Crystallinity by birefringence analysis using a polarizing microscope, USP<891> Thermal Analysis by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). Our highly trained personnel and state-of-the-art facilities assure the best available service for the characterization of foreign particles, impurity detection from raw materials to final products and various other uncommon analytical troubleshooting situations with the best instruments in the field. from October 25 – 28, 2011. The organizers are looking for symposia and speakers that can show how chemsitry makes connections with other disciplines by “Charting Connections in Chemsitry”. Key Features of the SERMACS 2009 Exposition:

• Booths in the Puerto Rico Convention Center Exhibit Hall C
• Exposition Hours:
• 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 21 Ribbon cutting ceremony during Opening Reception/Mixer
• 9:00 AM-7:00 PM, Thursday, October 22
• 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, Friday, October 23

• Each booth in the Exhibit Hall C is approximately 8' × 10' and include a 6' skirted table with two chairs, pipe & drape and a trash can.
• Standard electrical (110 V) is provided and the Convention Center has a wireless network connection available at cost.
• All refreshment breaks and poster sessions are scheduled for the Exhibit Hall C to increase traffic to the booths.

Perks for Exhibitors:

• Each booth purchase includes two meeting registrations for exhibitor staff.

Costs:

• Booth spaces in the Exhibit Hall C are $1450 for single and $2500 for double.
• To participate in the Vendor Prize Drawing during the Opening Reception/Mixer, a prize worth $50 or more has to be made available by the vendor.
• Spaces will be chosen by the vendor based on those available at the time of purchase.
