Regional Awards
The SERMACS 2009 Organizing Committee congratulates the Southeastern Regional Awards recipients. The Awards will be presented at the Awards Luncheon, scheduled at Noon on Friday, October 23.
ACS Division of Chemical Education Southeast Region Award for Excellence in High School Teaching

Awarded to Ms. Sondra Wieland, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, South Carolina.
The purpose of this award is to recognize, encourage, and stimulate outstanding teachers of high school chemistry in the Southeastern Region.

The Stan Israel Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences

Awarded to Dr. Cornelia Gillyard, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Spelman College, Atlanta, GA.
The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals and/or institutions that have advanced diversity in the chemical sciences and significantly stimulated or fostered activities that promote inclusiveness with in the region.

The E. Ann Nalley Regional Volunteer Service Award

Awarded to Larry K. Krannich, Ph.D.,
Professor Emeritus,
Executive Director, Alabama Academy of Science,
Department of Chemistry,
University of Alabama at Birmingham
The purpose of the Regional Award for Volunteer Service is to recognize ACS members who have given their time and energies selflessly for the betterment of the region. These individuals have served the American Chemical Society, contributing significantly to the goals and objectives of the Society through their Regional Activities.

The Regional Industrial Innovators Award

Awarded to Dr. Carlos J. López, Bristol-Myers-Quibb Manufacturing Company, Humacao, PR
This award is aimed at the industrial chemist and chemical engineer members of the Society. They are nominated for research done that results in an innovative product that benefits society.
